Our story

Who are we?

Spectrum was founded in March of 2020 in London, UK.

Andrew is a best-selling author of various genres, primarily enjoying to read and write thriller and fantasy novels. He was first published as a child in a nation-wide poetry contest, and never stopped writing since. He's now the main point of contact for Spectrum authors, cover designer and secondary editor.

Carl is also a best-selling author, writing in the crime thriller and horror genres. He'll rarely be seen without a book (or Kindle!) in his hands. He has worked in the publishing industry most of his adult life, and is now the primary editor at Spectrum Books.

Why was Spectrum Books founded?

Getting your book published is hard - for anyone. If you're a first-time author, it gets even harder. And, sadly, if your book is in the LGBTQ+ genres, it gets harder still.

Despite being best-selling authors ourselves, we noticed how much less likely a book is to get a publishing deal if it features LGBTQ+ characters or themes. Among traditional publishers - everything is about numbers. They also believe that an LGBTQ+ book inherently has a smaller possible audience, in their opinion, making their financial and time investments in a book less worthwhile.

We want to change this. We want LGBTQ+ books to be in the hands of every reader, whether they identify as part of the community or not.

We give every book a fair chance at publication, whether you have just written your first book or your fiftieth.

We know what it's like to be an author.

We've been where you are. We understand the anxiety, the self-doubt and the impostor syndrome of being an author, especially for your first book.

That's another reason why we founded Spectrum Books. Very few publishers are authors themselves, making it difficult to empathise with the journey to publication, and, as a result, meaning they can't tailor their service to what authors genuinely need and want from a publisher.

We know that your book is one of the most important things to you, and we treat it as such. Everything that we do for you at Spectrum is a joint partnership. We don't enforce anything on our authors, and they have an input at every stage of publishing, from cover design to editing.

Allow us at Spectrum Books to show you what having your book published can and should be.
