Caitlin Bowden
Having grown up in the North of Ireland, and earned her MA in Creative Writing, Caitlin Bowden is passionate about telling queer stories, and about leaning into aspects of queer characters less palatable to the heteronormative status quo. While the presence of queer characters is being normalised in today’s media, Caitlin feels they are often sanitised to appeal to an audience less familiar with their struggles, and rejects this entirely. She wants to challenge that narrative through her work and demonstrate that truly normalising queer representation in media means embracing the fact that just as there’s no such thing as a perfect heteronormative person, there’s no such thing as a perfect queer person either.
Recognising yourself in a character that is inherently flawed and being able to be inside their head can make you feel seen. Caitlin’s hope is that her work will someday provide that same comfort to her readers.
